So he thought murder was what he had to do, and when he heard about the blackbirds found in his father’s drawer and the pie, he came with the idea of the rhyme. It was not true that Rex called for his son, but the truth must be that Lancelot tried to get his father’s forgiveness, so he came to the house, but Rex wouldn’t have him. Miss Marple believes that Lancelot was hard-up, and even though he loves his wife very much, she had no money either. He killed her, and then he got to the house, and when Adele was alone, he managed to drop some cyanide in her cup of tea, and then he slipped away. Then she must have got a call from Lance, asking her to meet her in the garden. Miss Marple thinks that Gladys panicked when she realised that what she had added to the marmalade had killed Rex Fortescue. The surprise is that the man who called himself Albert is none other than Lancelot!!! Not Percival, but Lancelot!!! This Albert told her a tall tale about Rex deceiving her, so he needed him to tell the truth. Miss Marple believes that she met the person who she believed was her fiancé in a summer camp, and the man targeted her and asked her to get a position in Yewtree Lodge. The girl was indoctrinated, and she was quite gullible. Miss Marple saw an article about it among Gladys’s things.

In fact, she thought that the taxine was some kind of truth drug.

The person who killed Rex Fortescue was Gladys, and Miss Marple believes that she was tricked into thinking that adding the taxine to the marmalade would make Rex tell the truth.

She thinks that all the extra elements in the rhyme was the killer’s way of confounding. Shortly afterwards Miss Marple tells him about her conclusions. He actually thinks that Ruby MacKenzie is Mary Dove, but the woman doesn’t let anything away. The visit ends with Neele thinking that Ruby is in Yewtree Lodge. The woman also admits that she wanted her children to kill Rex Fortescue. Yet, in her ramblings he discovers that her son died in the war, but her daughter Ruby is still alive, but Helen and Ruby fell out for some reason.

The woman is unstable, and Neele finds it difficult to talk to her. Inspector Neele starts looking into the Mackenzies, and he discovers that Helen MacKenzie is in a sanatorium. Miss Marple is once again very clever, and she unravels the mystery. I didn’t even consider him for one moment. I have to say that I was totally floored to discover who the murderer was.
