Ībercrombie began writing The Blade Itself in 2002, completing it in 2004. With this time, he decided to reconsider a story plot he conceived while attending University. As a freelance film editor, Abercrombie found himself with more free time than he previously had. Career Ībercrombie had a job making tea at a television production company before taking up a career as a freelance film editor. Other favorite games of Abercrombie's include Elite, Dungeon Master, Street Fighter II, and Red Dead Redemption. In an interview with Edge magazine, Abercrombie stated that video games have been a big influence on his writing, including early interest in text-based adventure games and historically based strategy games such as Civilization and Age of Empires. Ībercrombie has been an avid player of video games since his childhood. He was educated at Lancaster Royal Grammar School and Manchester University, where he studied psychology.

His novel Half a King won the 2015 Locus Award for best young adult book. He is the author of The First Law trilogy, as well as other fantasy books in the same setting and a trilogy of young adult novels. I never really see them talked about.Joseph Edward Abercrombie (born December 31, 1974) is a British fantasy writer and film editor. Just curious how everyone else who's read the whole trilogy felt. The Shattered Sea's ending came completely out of nowhere and undid a lot of what made the series good. The First Law trilogy's bleak ending was thematically consistent and felt satisfying and expected. It felt like all the themes of the novels were abandoned, just for Abercrombie to pointlessly dash all our hopes for no good reason. And Yarvi just going full Bayaz at the end didn't have the buildup or the nuance that there was in Last Argument of Kings. The big battle being won by bringing guns to a swordfight was pretty cool, but ultimately a bit silly.

There were some plot points which I remember finding pointlessly annoying, like Brand's offscreen death for no reason. I haven't read them in about a year so I can't remember specifics, but I felt the three narrators didn't have nearly as much to them as the narrators in the first two. Half a War, though, I thought was a bit shit. Half the World was, in my opinion, an adventure story that was more interesting and compelling than a good few of Abercrombie's adult novels. Half a King was a beautifully fast-paced revenge story with a surprisingly interesting protagonist. There were a good few issues, sure, but I had a great time with it. I know nobody really talks about Shattered Sea here, and I think that's freaking criminal, because those books were incredible.
